FCC Aims to Approve AT&T-BellSouth Merger
With absolutely no conditions...

Posted 2006-09-22 14:46:37 by Karl

The Wall Street Journal reports that the FCC was circulating an order last night to approve the merger between AT&T and BellSouth without any conditions whatsoever. The Journal believes that while FCC chief Kevin Martin wants the deal condition-free, it's "extremely unlikely" he'll get what he wants. The FCC's newest commissioner, Republican Robert McDowell (previously discussed here), is being recused from the vote because he was at one time a lobbyist for smaller telecom firms that currently oppose the deal. That leaves the FCC in a two on two split between Democrats and Republicans.
