L.A. Joins Suit Against Franchise Rules

The city of Los Angeles has become the latest jurisdiction to join the suit challenging the Federal Communications Commission's March 5 order that localities must approve franchise applications from new competitors within 90 days.

The big winners could well be the cable TV providers, such as Time Warner cable, and would-be providers, such as AT&T. But guess who might end up losing in the deal?

Federal Court To Hear Video Franchise Challenge

As promised, local governments took the FCC to court last week over its revision of video franchising rules, and now the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has reportedly been assigned to hear the case.

Fight against new FCC video franchising rules heads to court

A handful of local government groups are asking the courts to roll back the Federal Communication Commission's new video franchise rules. Formal Petitions for Review were filed before the US Courts of Appeal for the Third, Fourth, and Sixth Circuits, by the National Association of Counties, the Alliance for Community Media, National League of Cities, the National Association of Telecommunications Officials, and the US Conference of Mayors, among others.

Local Governments Challenge FCC Video Franchising Rules

Several lobbies representing local governments have petitioned the courts to get the FCC's recently issued video franchise rules reversed. Five appeals, filed in separate federal courts April 3, claimed the FCC exceeded its authority with the franchise order, adopted in December by a vote of 3-2.
